May 5, 2020 - In response to COVID-19, tech companies around the world are identifying ways that they can help. By using tracking apps and mobility reports, they are providing organizations such as the CDC and World Health Organization, along with local officials and individual consumers, with the most accurate information to make educated decisions. This is open source information sharing on an almost unprecedented scale. Never before has global data diplomacy flourished as it currently is in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic. November 24, 2019 - At Cornell University's, I visited the Johnson Museum of Art, and reflected on the modern intersection between art and diplomacy. The primary exhibit was how the light gets in, based on a song of the same title by Leonard Cohen. A collection of work from 58 artists, representing 29 countries of birth and residence, the exhibit features themes of migration, immigration, displacement and exile. Read more.
November 2, 2019 - This conversation, sponsored by the Council on Foreign Relations, featured Robert D. Blackwill. Blackwill served as deputy assistant to the president and deputy national security adviser for strategic planning under President George W. Bush. Under the Bush Administration, he was responsible for government policy planning to help develop and coordinate the direction of U.S. foreign policy. Read more.
October 8, 2019 - Avril Haines is the current commissioner at the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service; deputy director of the Columbia World Projects; and senior fellow at the John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. As part of INSCT’s Distinguished Fellows Speaker Series, Haines visited campus to discuss law, counter terrorism, national security and her experience working in and for the Obama Administration.
